SPOTLIGHT
THE CHRISTMAS STORY RETURNS
The full stage production of The Christmas Story returns this month, celebrating the true spirit of the season. The 86th season plays December 9-24 at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto.
Reservations are recommended and will be available soon via thechristmasstory.ca. Seating is general admission. Admission is also available at the door.
Since the pandemic began in 2020, the health and safety of performers and audience have been at the forefront of the team’s concerns. Over the past three years they created and released a gorgeous film version of The Christmas Story: A Pandemic Pageant. And they programmed simplified Words and Music specials and film screenings to allow audiences to safely experience the choral harmonies and scripture of The Christmas Story, while minimizing potential exposure to COVID-19.
But there’s nothing that compares with The Christmas Story in live performance, fully staged, experienced as a community in the historic Church of the Holy Trinity. Tradition, community, innocence, trembling nerves, miracles and soaring choral music: this not-to-be-missed Nativity play returns as a calming antidote to a hectic season and a troubled world. It is a beautiful reminder that this is a season of blessings and new beginnings that we should all share with each other.
The story of the Nativity is told through a series of narrated scenes linked by beautiful organ music and carols from an unseen choir. More than 50 volunteers, including babies who take turns playing the role of baby Jesus, perform the pageant. The Christmas Story is guaranteed to help you connect with the spirit of the season, so mark your calendars right away!
