MEET RAKHEE

TALL AMBITIONS

Rakhee Morzaria plays Camille Pham on the CBC comedy Run the Burbs.

Name: Rakhee Morzaria. I was the first girl born in a family of brothers and male cousins, and my grandma needed me to protect them all, so she called me Rakhee (for Rakshabandhan) as a reminder.

Currently: I play Camille Pham on the CBC comedy Run the Burbs. Camille is a chef, budding entrepreneur, mother, and partner to Andrew Pham played by Andrew Phung. She’s funny, direct and incredibly passionate about cooking. She lost her mom when she was young and uses her mother’s Indian recipes as inspiration to bring friends and family around the dinner table. It’s an honour to play such a dynamic and funny character!

Favourite colour: Orange sunsets.

Favourite designer: I love to shop vintage. Also, really into jewellery by Bhavya Ramesh right now.

Favourite Bollywood star: Priyanka Chopra.

Favourite Hollywood star: Priyanka Chopra.

Favourite movie: Ponyo.

Favourite music: I’m listening to a playlist on Spotify called Wong Kar Wai Films that’s just a bunch of music from his films. Six hours of melancholy/dreamy vibes.

Favourite song: Louder by Big Freedia and Icon Pop.

Favourite TV show: The Good Fight.

Favourite ice cream flavour: Mint, if they do mint well; otherwise, birthday cake flavour; and if they don’t have either, classic chocolate will do. Can’t go wrong with a classic chocolate ice cream. Cone is a must.

Favourite food: Dumplings.

Favourite restaurant: Thai Nyyom, an incredible Thai place in the west-end in Toronto.

Favourite sport: Tennis.

Favourite sportsperson: Serena Williams.

Favourite book: Brother by David Chariandy.

Favourite activity: Making faces in the mirror.

I hang out: By the water.

I’m freaked out by: Billionaires.

I need: Lip balm, please.

I want to be: 70 per cent funny, 25 per cent pragmatic and 5 per cent taller.

My role models: Maya Rudolph, Sandra Oh, and my little cousin K. Because they carve their own way and are smart and funny af.

Tips to save the planet: Ride a bike!

In a perfect world: Everyone has access to food, healthcare and shelter.
