ARRIVAL LOUNGE
NEW ROLES AT BRAMPTON CITY COUNCIL
At a special meeting, Brampton City Council appointed city councillor Harkirat Singh, wards 9 and 10, as deputy mayor for the 2022 to 2026 term of office.
The deputy mayor presides at Council and other Committee meetings and assumes ceremonial and civic event duties on behalf of the Mayor if the Mayor is absent or unavailable.
Singh served on Brampton Council as city councillor, wards 9 and 10 for the 2018 to 2022 term. Prior to this, he served a four-year term as school trustee at the Peel District School Board.
“I am proud to have Councillor Harkirat Singh serve as this Term of Council’s Deputy Mayor,” said Brampton mayor Patrick Brown.
“He is a dedicated, hard-working councillor with proven results in delivering what is best for Brampton. Entering his second term as councillor, and holding a school trustee role before that, he is a known and trusted elected official to many who I am confident will represent and serve the City of Brampton well in this role. Brampton has an important role to play at the Region of Peel Council, and together with our partners at the City of Mississauga and Town of Caledon, we will help shape the future of our regional community by focusing on services important to our city, such as policing and community safety, affordable housing, and jobs and the economy.”
“It is an honour to be appointed by my council colleagues as deputy mayor,” said Singh. “With the opportunity that lies ahead of us in Brampton, I am excited and proud to support mayor Brown and councillors in prioritizing community while we move our City forward.”
Brampton City Council also appointed city councillor Navjit Kaur Brar, wards 2 and 6, to serve as Brampton’s additional regional councillor on Peel Regional Council for the 2022 to 2026 term of office.
“Regional responsibilities like social services and housing, police and paramedic services, and waste and water management impact the lives of our residents every day,” said Brar. “I am honoured to have been appointed to Region of Peel Council, and look forward to representing Brampton and our residents’ needs.”
As one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, Brampton is home to 700,000 people and 75,000 businesses.
