BRAMPTON ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Jasmine Canaviri is the 2024 Brampton Artist-in-Residence.

Brampton Arts Organization and Brampton Library have selected Jasmine Canaviri as the 2024 Brampton Artist-in-Residence.

The Brampton Artist-in-Residence program offers local professional artists, collectives, and arts organizations an $8,000 stipend and free workspace to undertake a community-based artist residency at Brampton Library’s Mount Pleasant Village Branch from June to September 2024.

Canaviri’s residency will engage with and showcase the mosaic of diverse cultures and creative talents within Brampton by inviting community members to co-create with the artist and craft 100 community-made mugs.

She will hold weekly public office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8:30pm until September 4 – a great opportunity to learn about both ceramics and her art practice. Canaviri will also deliver free community-focused public arts programming through a series of workshops on hand building and decorating ceramic mugs. At the end of the residency, she and her co-creators will host a celebration and showcase the hundred finished mugs.

Let’s Build a Ceramic Mug Workshops: July 13: 10:30 am-1:30 pm and July 31: 5:30 pm-8 pm

Let’s Decorate a Ceramic Mug Workshops: August 10: 10:30 am-1:30 pm; August 21: 6 pm - 8 pm; September 7: 10:30 am-1:30 pm.

Showcase and Artist in Residency Celebration will be held on September 21 at Mount Pleasant Village Branch from 11 am to 1 pm.

“The Library is a place for community discovery, and we are very excited to invite residents to discover Jasmine’s talent and participate in the 100 Mugs project by helping create something that represents them as community members,” said Todd Kyle, Chief Executive Officer, Brampton Library.
