DON’T GIVE UP YOUR DAY JOB

Day Players is a six-episode absurdist comedy that dives headfirst into the chaotic, delusional, and hilariously awkward world of struggling actors.

Following its successful premiere as an official selection at SeriesFest & TO WebFest, the Canadian Comedy Award-winning digital series Day Players made its world premiere on Image Killer’s YouTube channel recently.

Day Players is a six-episode absurdist comedy that dives headfirst into the chaotic, delusional, and hilariously awkward world of struggling actors.

Each episode centres around a different acting class assignment, from cringe-worthy studies of the “world’s greatest Canadian actor” to producing an unwatchable short film, and even a case of murder through what can only be described as “criminal negligence”.

Created by Reelworld Film Festival Trailblazer Award winner Farid Yazdani (Moonshine, Suits), directed by Aref Mahabadi (Because One Day), and written by Chris D’Alessandro, Day Players the series delivers laughs for anyone who has ever stepped into an acting class and secretly wondered if they should have stayed in business school.

The stellar cast includes Farid Yazdani, Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show), Brock Morgan (The Good Doctor, Workin’ Moms), two-time Juno Award nominee Alex Bird, Nicolette Pearse (Transplant, Kim’s Convenience), Canadian Screen Awards winner Aisha Evelyna (The Drop, Slo Pitch), and Canadian Screen Awards nominee Ashley Leggat (Life With Derek).

“Centering the show around an acting class is our way of satirizing a cottage industry that profits off people’s hopes and dreams,” says Yaz-dani.

“This is a show about the absurdity, pain, and mania of pursuing your dreams.”

But Day Players is far from the typical story of struggling actors trying to “make it.”

“We’re trying to do the opposite of that” explains Mahabadi. “We’re lampooning the concept of an ‘inside baseball’ type show. At its heart, Day Players is a sharp satire about the egomaniacs who populate this world.”

“The characters are all shallow wannabes,” adds D’Alessandro. “They are egomaniacs chasing vanity rather than meaningful connection. Sure, they’d be happier if they learned the value of real human relationships...but let’s be honest, they probably never will.”

Hailed for its sharp writing, absurdist humour, and talented ensemble cast, Day Players offers a fresh and unapologetically hilarious take on the chaos of chasing big dreams.

The series is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever dared to dream – or failed spectacularly trying.
