MEET NISHA
I WAS A DIFFERENT PERSON YESTERDAY
Name: Nisha Khan.
Currently: Myself, along with two other wonderful creators are behind Get Up Aisha – a series that follows Aisha Rehman, a type A Pakistani Canadian student who after getting diagnosed with depression tries to apply a checklist approach to curing the incurable. It’s available on CBC Gem.
My life in 50 words or less!: I’m a writer, producer, friend, sister and mental health advocate along with many other things. While writing is my first love, I’m a sucker for deep-diving in true crime and building homes in The Sims.
The writer in me took flight when: In grade 12 my creative writing teacher published me in two books before I graduated! Always need that one person to believe in you.
The artiste in me wishes: Anyone interested in pursuing the arts can find their support system.
My favourite line in literature: “It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” – Alice in Wonderland.
Favourite colours: Lavender and periwinkle.
Favourite designer: Don’t have one.
Favourite movies: Goodwill Hunting, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Breakfast Club and My Girl.
Favourite musician: Tupac Shakur.
Favourite songs: Currently, On the low by Shay Lia and Black Friday by Tom Odell.
Favourite TV shows: Fargo, Game of Thrones, Succession, Severance and Love is Blind, of course.
Favourite ice cream flavour: Mint Chocolate Chip or Green Tea.
Favourite cuisine: Japanese.
Favourite restaurant: Can’t go wrong with The Cheesecake Factory.
Favourite sports: Soccer (Chelsea) and basketball (Raptors).
Favourite sportsperson: Sergio Ramos.
Favourite author: Paulo Coelho.
Favourite activities: Gaming, binge-watching reality tv shows, trying new restaurants and napping.
I hang out: You can usually find me in my bed.
I’m freaked out by: Bugs and super tall people.
I need: Caffeine and your wi-fi password.
My role models: The life of Maya Angelou inspires me always. And getting to watch the work ethic of Marushka and Rabiya (my co-creators) has made me work harder and keep pushing myself!
Tips to save the planet: Stop littering.
In a perfect world: People wouldn’t be afraid to speak out on atrocities like genocide. In the words of Malcolm X: “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.”
