HOPE TRIUMPHS
SECURITY IN AN INSECURE WORLD
By REVEREND TONY ZEKVELD
If there are some lessons we may learn from the last eighteen months, one of them is that there is no security in the things of this world.
Our health, our finances, our jobs are not guaranteed. Supports may be put in place such as CERB or vaccines. Whether long term or short term solutions, these are, at best, temporary.
How our world has changed! God used a microscopic virus to bring the world to a halt. But what have we learned through all this? Have we learned that man is not in control of life, of the economy, of health? Our governments are reeling in a time of nearly collapsed economies and healthcare systems. At times, when nations feel the loss of control or know that they are not in control, they exert more control over their citizens to convince themselves otherwise.
Freedom is the casualty.
Rather than humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God, nations want to assert themselves as god. The state is not god but exists in the hand of God. The Bible says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, like the rivers of living water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” (Proverbs 21:1). God raises and brings down governments. This ought to teach us something. We should not put our trust in man but in God who made us. God is sovereign over the nations. He reigns.
God has placed all things in the hands of His Son, Jesus, the Lord and King over all. He came to reverse sin and its curse, man’s misfortunes, through His death on the cross for sinners, His resurrection from the dead and exaltation at the right hand of God the Father.
Our security is only in Christ. By trusting in Him alone for our salvation, He guarantees eternal life. For the one who trusts in Him, death is but an entrance into eternal life and fellowship with Him forever. There is more. Because He lives, I also live. Because Jesus arose from the dead, He promises that I too, that is my body, shall be raised from the dust at the end of the world when He returns.
Knowing that I am secure in Christ, He frees me from the fear of death and enables me to live with firm hope and confidence because of Him. I hope He may be your security, as well, in this insecure world.
