SHARING STORIES OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) and the Office of Women’s Health Research in Mental Health (OWHC) have partnered to launch The Stories Around Us: Mental Health Narratives of South Asian Women with an online panel discussion on mental health.

The virtual book launch webinar takes place on November 15 from 12 noon to 1:30pm.

The anthology is edited by Rana Khan. The author, poet, ESL teacher and community educator shares her own story of mental health issues, and those of nine other South Asian women in the book.

Namrta Mohan and Kripa Sekhar are speakers at the webinar.

Namrta Mohan holds a master’s degree in psychology, and is a registered psychotherapist, speaker and clinical supervisor, with more than 15 years of experience in the field of mental health.

Kripa Sekhar is the Executive Director of the South Asian Women’s Centre (SAWC) and former co-chair for the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC).

Moderator Attia Khan is a postdoctoral fellow with the Office of Women’s Health, Research Chair in Mental Health, Faculty of Health, York University.

She is also a contract faculty at University College, University of Toronto.
