MEET FARAH

TOMORROW STARTS TODAY. BUT OF COURSE.

After a childhood filled with Bollywood, Monty Python, and Jane Austen, Farah Heron constantly wove uplifting happily ever-afters in her head while pursuing careers in human resources and psychology.

She’s the author of How to Win a Breakup, Tahira in Bloom, Accidentally Engaged, and Jana Goes Wild. Her books have been praised in Entertainment Weekly, Style Magazine, Buzzfeed, and the Globe and Mail and named best books of the year by USA Today, CBC books, and National Public Radio.

Farah lives in Toronto with her husband and two teenagers, plus two cats who rule the house.

Name: Farah Heron. Farah is a Persian name that means happy (although I am not Persian). Heron, of course, is a family of birds found all over the world.

Currently: My newest book, Remember Me Tomorrow, is my first mystery. It’s about Aleeza, a lonely first year university student who is struggling in the big city, and feeling neglected by her best friend. When she switches dorm rooms to get away from that friend, she finds that she can text Jay, a second year student who went missing from campus several months earlier. But it turns out that the Jay she is texting with is from the past – just weeks before his disappearance. Together, Aleeza and Jay piece together what happened, or what will happen to Jay, all while discovering that they understand each other better than anyone else, and of course, they fall in love.

My life in 50 words (or less!): I am a South Asian Canadian author of romances for adults and teens. I live in Toronto with my family and my cats. I love food, (cooking and eating) travelling, and reading. Writing books is my third career, and it’s the most fun, and most challenging thing I’ve ever done.

The writer in me took flight when: I went through a difficult time in my life about a decade ago and I coped with it by reading romance books. I’ve always been a prolific reader, but there was always a little voice in my head telling me I should try writing a book one day. After reading so many books in one year, I thought it was finally time.

The poet in me wishes: Ha! I am not great at poetry. If there is a poet in me, I haven’t found her yet.

The mom in me wants to: Make sure my kids are happy and comfortable in their lives, are doing something they find fulfilling, and are surrounded by people who let them be themselves.

Favourite colours: Red, turquoise, and sage green.

Favourite designers: Christian Siriano and Jonathan Adler.

Favourite movies: Mama Mia, Pride and Prejudice, and Back to the Future.

Favourite TV show: Star Trek the Next Generation.

Favourite ice cream flavour: Ginger.

Favourite cuisine: Indian, Thai, or Italian.

Favourite restaurant: Too many to list!

Favourite activities: At home, writing, reading, baking, doing my nails. When out, eating, hiking, wandering new neighbourhoods, shopping.

I hang out: In restaurants, cafés, and libraries.

I’m freaked out by: Snakes and thrill rides.

I need: Something to keep me busy all the time.

My role models: My role models change as I get older and move to different stages in my career.

Tips to save the planet: Reduce your consumption and reuse your stuff more often than you recycle.

In a perfect world: People would be able to empathize easily with others that don’t look, or don’t live their lives, like they do.
