MEET RAVEENA

JUST A NORMAL DAY AT HIGH SCHOOL

Raveena Duggal.

Grade 11 student Raveena Duggal wrote, produced, directed, edited, and starred in a short film, Randy, with her friend Myla Hayes.

Randy is an official selection for the Dreamachine International Film Festival being held October 31 in Los Angeles. It is also an official selection for the Western Canadian International Film Festival. Raveena’s award-winning children’s book, Three Bunny Sisters, was a recent runner-up for the International Book Award.

Name: Raveena Duggal. Raveena means sunlight. It was made by combining my grandparent’s names, Ravi and Veena.

Currently: Randy, the short film I did with my friend Myla is a lighthearted horror genre film about two students that just entered high school. They are pranked by an anonymous “person” and they decide to return the favour.   

Favourite colour: Blue.

Favourite label: Aritzia.

Favourite Bollywood star: Priyanka Chopra Jonas. 

Favourite Hollywood star: Awkwafina.  

Favourite movie: Barbie.

Favourite singer: Taylor Swift.

Favourite song: I’m A Lady by Meghan Trainer.

Favourite TV show: Demon Slayer.

Favourite ice cream flavour: Cookies and cream.

Favourite cuisine: Indian.

Favourite restaurant: J. Alexander’s.  

Favourite sports: Swimming and golf.

Favourite sportsperson: LeBron James.

Favourite author: Marissa Meyer.  

Favourite activities: Reading (mystery, fantasy and adventure) and travelling.

I hang out: At the mall with my friends.  

I’m freaked out by: Spiders. 

I need: To raise awareness about the environment and helping people with mental health issues who are coping with stress, anxiety, and depression. I wish for more mental health facilities to open up to support the increasing number of people with mental health problems.

I want to: Become a doctor because I enjoy helping people.

My role models: My parents. They are always there to support and encourage me. My parents are there through my ups and downs. They are my biggest fans! 

Tips to save the planet: Switch off the lights when you leave the room, don’t leave the water running, only buy what you need, and try to use eco-friendly modes of transportation (i.e. walking, biking).  

In a perfect world: There wouldn’t be any crime, no discrimination (i.e. gender, religion, race), no global warming, no world hunger, no wars, and no diseases.
