DEAD PARENTS SOCIETY

Dead Parents Society: A Dark Sketch Comedy Revue runs from October 18 to 29 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Toronto.

After two critically acclaimed award-winning sold-out runs in 2019 and 2020, Shohana Sharmin returns with Dead Parents Society: A Dark Sketch Comedy Revue as part of the Next Stage Theatre Festival in October 2023.

“It’s a comedy, I promise!” she says.

They say tragedy plus time equals comedy. Dead Parents Society, a dark sketch comedy revue directed by Canadian Comedy Award-winning director Kirsten Rasmussen, will shine a light at the end of the tunnel. It was created by a group of comedians who each lost a parent at a young age. The experience of navigating grief, in a society that teaches us to put sadness away into tiny little drawers, taught us that the aftermath of tragedy can be funny. Dead Parents Society is a sketch comedy show with heart, about love and loss and mortality.

Written and performed by Shohana Sharmin, Anne McMaster, King Chiu.

When and where: From October 18 -29 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Toronto.

Tickets: $20. More info here.
