TCF’S NEW INITIATIVE IN INDIA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
The Toronto Calcutta Foundation (TCF) is expanding its footprint beyond Bengal with their latest project, Sakhi Vocational Training School in Kushalgarh, Rajasthan.
The new initiative in collaboration with a local NGO aims to help prevent the migration of tribal women to the city in search of work where they face challenges with health, safety and prosperity. The women are being trained in handicrafts and tailoring so they can use these skills to earn a living.
TCF’s education centres continue to conduct coaching classes to serve many students in the rural and economically challenged parts of West Bengal. The team is especially proud of all of the learning programs offered at its Bolpur Education Centre.
At the thriving centre, time is spent in nurturing talent and creativity along with the focus on providing academic support.
Over the years, Uttaran Training Centre in Kolkta has offered sewing classes to women so they can go on to support themselves and their families with their skill. A new batch of students to began class recently.
TCF has partnered with the Calcutta Social Project to sponsor the digital/online training of children in an effort to help bridge the gap for those children who would otherwise not be able to meet the needs of the high-tech world we now live in.
All programs and activities are run by volunteers and supported through fund raised in Toronto, and some in Calcutta.
Since 2012 TCF has also partnered with Women’s Habitat, funding their Girlz Space Program for girls 8 -16 to reduce isolation, boost self-confidence, build valuable leadership skills, and encourage goal setting.
The registered charity aims to provide healthcare, education and vocational training to the underprivileged sections of the population. In Toronto, it also works to support women and young girls traumatized by adverse family situations and to provide them with opportunities to enhance their leadership and motivational skills.
