MEET KANIKA
The Gita is the answer to all my questions
Name: Kanika Bhardwaj. My bua gave me this name because ‘Kanika’ is the synonym of her name and she loves me enough to share even her name with me.
Currently: I am an architect and an artist, working on taking my premier step towards my formal education in Canada in Building Index Management. As an artist, I am working on a few commissions and also getting ready for Brampton Culture Days in September. Excited much!
Favourite colour: Black. Black is complete. Gothic and classic poetry at the same time!
Favourite outfit: Anything that allows my body to breathe in comfort becomes my fave!
Favourite Bollywood star: Vicky Kaushal. Say no more, ask no more!
Favourite Hollywood star: Umm...I am not into Hollywood to the extent of having a fave star. Wait, would Patrick Wilson as Edward Warren work?
Favourite movie: Honestly, it takes a lot of effort for me to sit down for three hours patiently to watch a movie, but there is a recent one, Badla, that kept me hooked until the last moment! Amazing watch.
Favourite singer: There are quite a few actually. Abida Parveen, Mohd. Rafi, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Kishore Kumar, Mohit Chauhan and Eddie Vedder.
Favourite songs: Too long a list, but let me cut it short for y’all – Porcupine Tree by Lazarus, Guaranteed by Eddie Vedder, all Pink Floyd and Metallica songs, almost all old Hindi songs by above-mentioned singers. Oh! And did I mention I love Celtic music?
Favourite TV show: Not a TV fan, but any show that keeps my laughter and curiosity instincts engrossed, I am up for them!
Favourite ice cream flavour: Chocolate! Any time, all times!
Favourite cuisine: Ghar ka khaana. Baingan ka bharta with boondi ka raita tops the list!
Favourite restaurant: Roadside Punjabi dhabas in India are unparalleled! Dal makhni with tandoori roti and fresh salad, bhuni hui besan ki barfi for a sweet dish! Do I need anything else? Umm, no!
Favourite sport: Basketball tops the list! Also, aerobics, since childhood.
Favourite sportsperson: I would be honest in naming my younger brother Ravi Bhardwaj, an international basketball player representing India.
Favourite book: A lot of books, but Bhagvat Gita by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is the answer to all my questions.
Favourite activity: Doodling and designing while listening to my fave music!
I hang out: In my cozy corner beside a window with a view, probably sipping a cup of warm coffee, my journal in my hand with headphones on playing some deep instrumentals. Perfect!
I’m freaked out by: Reptiles. Basically everything and anything that slithers and is slimy. Gross!
I need: I believe my journey is my ultimate destination and I will need undying patience, courage and determination to be on it.
I want to be: Sensitive enough towards all living beings in whatever I do or aspire to do until my last breath.
My role models: My great grandfather, my grandparents, my parents, my bua and my siblings. All of them have never failed to inspire me in ways I can not explain. Kids are my role models too. You don’t find such innocence and honest criticism anywhere else! Do you?
Tips to save the planet: Be sensitive towards the environment the same as you are with your body; keep it vibrant, free from toxins and authentic!
In a perfect world: These lyrics from Dreamer by Ozzy Osbourne convey my feelings clearly: Gazing through the window at the world outside, wondering will mother earth survive... hoping that mankind will stop abusing her, sometime.
