Peel Regional Police announced the establishment of a diverse, independent Anti-Racism Advisory Committee (ARAC) recently.

“We look forward to working with our ARAC representatives and continuing to make impactful changes together that will lead to better outcomes for everyone in Peel Region,” said Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah. “The formation of an Anti-Racism Advisory Committee is a critical component in our collective commitment to human rights-centered work in dismantling systemic racism.”

The Anti-Racism Advisory Committee comprised of residents from Peel Region, will engage and work collaboratively to address a number of commitments undertaken by the service to identify systemic barriers. This includes providing advice and feedback on Peel Regional Police’s anti-racism practices and the impact of policing within diverse communities in the Region. The committee consists of 21 diverse members representing Mississauga and Brampton.
