CAAMA SHINES A SPOTLIGHT ON INDIA
Every year, the Canadian Association of Music and the Arts (CAAMA) shines the light on a different country.
Over the past two decades, the International Marketplace trade activities at CMW has introduced thousands of Canadian export-ready artistes, entrepreneurs and SMEs to international music industry leaders and buyers, resulting in the development of new trade relationships.
CAAMA’s 2024 Spotlight on India international trade activities include a Spotlight panel and pre-arranged, curated International Marketplace B2B on June 3 during Canadian Music Week at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel Toronto.
Canada is home to one of the largest overseas communities of Indian origin, with approximately 1.4 million Canadians of Indian heritage (3.7% of Canada’s population.). Indo-Canadians are one of the fastest growing communities in Canada and one of the largest non-European ethnic groups
The 2024 Spotlight on India will explore the vast potential of international opportunities for India’s thriving music market – one of the most established worldwide – with more than 1,000 radio stations, 10M+ live events, 750+M phones with radio sets and music capability; 1,450 TV shows related to music; nine major music streaming platforms. India is the second largest internet market in the world (after China). The high internet penetration now enables access to India music markets which were once inaccessible. This session will delve into how countries can leverage India’s rich musical landscape, marked by the world’s most subscribed YouTube channel, T-Series, and a populace who spend more time on music than the global average. India is poised to become the largest music streaming market by volume. The panel promises strategic insights for engaging with this vibrant market, offering fresh opportunities for access, revenue, and collaborative ventures across borders.
The panel is moderated by Jasper Donat, CEO, Branded Inc. The panel features Mumbai-based market specialists Meghana Bhogle, Priyanka Khimani, Rafael Pereira, Sushil Chhugani and Tej Brar.
CAAMA’s 2024 Spotlight on India is produced with the support of Canada’s Global Affairs CanExport programme, the Canadian consulate in Mumbai and the Canadian Trade Commissioners Service.
