TCF RAISES $70K FOR INDIA INITIATIVES
The Toronto-Calcutta Foundation's 17th annual gala was a resounding success, with over 150 guests in attendance.
This year’s gala not only attracted a large audience but also raised more than $70,000 to support charitable initiatives both in Canada and India.
The evening began with a warm welcome from TCF’s secretary and emcee, Papia Dutta. Avantika Sanjay captivated the audience by performing the national anthem, followed by a beautiful rendition of English and Bollywood songs, showcasing her melodious talent.
Dr Sankar Dasgupta was the keynote speaker. Instead of delivering a speech, he presented the guests with his mission to combat childhood stunting in India by distributing jackfruit saplings. To accomplish this objective, TCF has distributed over 600,000 saplings across West Bengal to-date.
A highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing Bharatanatyam performance by Jayeeta Banerjee, an acclaimed dancer, and her students. Through their artistry, they paid tribute to those who lost their lives to injustice and gave voice to untold stories, beautifully embodying the event's theme.
TCF Director Manjurika Das also presented insights into TCF’s ongoing activities, further engaging and inspiring the audience.
The evening concluded with a silent auction, door prizes and a delicious dinner.
